Service: The Thing You’ve Got to Know is Everything is Showbiz!

Day and Time
Sunday Apr 6, 10:30 AM - 11:30 AMDetails
with Thomas Weisbecker and Ken Stock
From political rallies to media spin, power has never been more theatrical. Inspired by Mel Brooks’ Springtime for Hitler, we explore what Bertram Gross called “friendly fascism”—authoritarianism repackaged with a smile, wrapped in spectacle, and sold as entertainment. Rather than overt dictatorship, it emerges through the merger of corporate and state power, using propaganda, media, and bureaucracy to sustain control under a democratic façade. Through reflection and discussion, we’ll consider how Unitarian Universalists can cut through the illusion, interpret the news with clarity, and uphold our values in a world where politics feels like just another show.
