Rev. Maddie continues her series on historic Universalism with a consideration of the Humiliati, one of whom was the minister of the last church she served in Wakefield, Massachusetts. In 1945, a group of young, Universalist ministers brought renewing challenges to the theology of the declining Universalist Church of America.  They called themselves, “The Humiliati” from an Italian word meaning, “the humble ones.”  They were not, in fact, especially humble, but in bringing humanism and new approaches to the church, their legacy lives on.
